Eiesenhower

The reading by Paul Johnson on Eisenhower really struck me. My family talks politics pretty often, and I remember my grandfather always saying that Eisenhower wasn't a good president, so it was interesting for me to hear this completely new perspective that was so strongly positive. Johnson's writing style was quite compelling: he used emotional components but then also backed them up with great details and facts. I was especially convinced of Eisenhower's presidential prowess after the description of his drastic and miraculous revitalizing of the US economy and with it the economies of much of the rest of the world. Johnson also talks about how Eisenhower was really the only president that knew how to balance and keep in control the force of the CIA and military men which in the times of the Cold War was quite difficult. The paper is ended, quite justly, with the sentence, "These were tremendous achievements."
