The evil suburb???
I'm shocked at the ultimatum mindset that the critics of the suburbs had during this time period. They argue that the suburbs are entirely corruptive to individual identities which will lead eventually to the downfall of American values. The possibility that the migration to the outskirts of cities would be a natural flow of movement seen through American history. When American first moved to the cities, critics discussed the corruption of American values due to higher consumerism. However, the adjustment to the suburbs did represent a shift in culture, whether that shift was good or bad is debatable. With the more opportunities to own and personalize their homes, the American people became obsessed with having the best things and easily influenced by Ads, but found a greater sense of pride in themselves.
